A favorite trick of thieves is to quickly remove all serial numbers of the property they steal. Have you ever heard of a stolen firearm having its serial number filed off? What if the owner of that firearm had a "ThugLoc" serialized identity label placed in a hidden location? Not many thieves will disassemble the firearm to see if there is a hidden identification label placed behind the butt stock plate, but they will file off the serial number.
